Occupational Health and Safety

Occupational Health and Safety Program Policy

We, Daryl Bennett and Glynn Pike, along with the management of Marine Contractors Inc. have a responsibility to ensure the health and safety of every worker. Our philosophy is that the well-being of our company depends on the health, safety and welfare of our workforce. To achieve this goal, we shall endeavor to develop, implement and evaluate our Occupational Health and Safety Program to be as effective as possible. A healthy and safe workplace is created by the management and employees, along with the assistance of the Occupational Health and Safety Committee and Coordinator.

The Occupational Health and Safety Committee and Coordinator, with the assistance of management, will strive to ensure the healthiest and safest workplace possible by requiring that all workers receive ongoing health and safety related training, by maintaining communications between management and employees and by leading through actions rather than words.

Project supervisors are held accountable for the health and safety of workers under their supervision. Responsibilities include ensuring equipment and machinery are safe, with appropriate guarding, and ensuring that established safe work practices and procedures are followed.

Workers must protect their own health and safety, and that of their co-workers, by following Occupational Health and Safety legislation, safe work practices and procedures and by reporting all unsafe acts and conditions.

Subcontractors will be required to meet Occupational Health and Safety legislation and follow Marine Contractors Inc. policies regarding health and safety.

Health and safety is an integral part of this company’s day to day operation. It is in the best interest of all employees to join together and put into practice health and safety principles in all work activities.

This Occupational Health and Safety Policy will be reviewed on an annual basis and revised when necessary, in order to reflect changes made as we continuously improve our Occupational Health and Safety Program.

Occupational Health and Safety Program

Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) is our first priority. Our ultimate goal is to have management and employees working together to identify and control situations that could cause harm and integrate health and safety awareness into all daily activities. Our organization takes all reasonable measures to protect the health and safety of individuals on, or near, our worksites. By achieving this goal, our organization meets, and exceeds, all applicable Occupational Health and Safety legislation.

Our Occupational Health and Safety Program encompasses a wide range of health and safety issues. Our OH&S Committee facilitates communication between management and employees with respect to health and safety. Education and training requirements are reviewed annually and management and employees are provided training at no cost to the participant. Safe work practices and procedures have been developed and implemented to provide consistent methods to safely complete all common and critical activities. Hazard assessments are conducted prior to mobilization to each new worksite and amended if new hazards are identified as work continues. Mandatory tool box meetings ensure that all identified hazards are communicated with everyone at our worksite, and more importantly, everyone is given the knowledge and means to control or mitigate these hazards.

Ultimately, our Occupational Health and Safety Program ensures that health and safety is not viewed as being independent of the job, but instead, is seen as an integral, full-time component of each individual’s responsibilities.
